Whether you are new to public transportation or an expert, utilizing the city’s public transportation system is a great way to explore all three site locations. This option reduces your carbon footprint and is a fun way to explore the city of Grand Rapids!

Travel from Rapid Central Station to each site location by following the routes below.
Downtown.
Take Route 11 from Central Station to Monroe & Louis Stop #4486
MLK Park.
Take Route 2 from Central Station to Fuller Across From Prince Stop #951 Thank you to the Rapid and Mobile GR for service enhancements to support residents and visitors during Project 1 by increasing frequency on Route 2 (Kalamazoo) on all Saturdays from 30 minute intervals to 15 minute intervals from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Tanglefoot.
Take Route 18 from Central Station to Butterworth & Straight Stop #7992 Note: Walking back from Tanglefoot to Central Station is the fastest route.
School and Charter Buses
Visiting with your school or group? Below are a few resources.
- Transportation grants (application coming soon) are available to educators to help offset their school’s transportation costs to Project 1. Grants are limited and awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.

Catch a ride
With limited parking options at several site locations, using a rideshare or taxi service is one of the easiest and most convenient ways to get around Project 1.
Project 1 Honda Hoppers
- Look for the Honda Hopper presented by West Michigan Honda Dealers. Catch a free ride from one Project 1 site to another. Noon – 6 p.m. Saturdays in September.

Ride a bike
Get active and have an art adventure on your bike! In partnership with Mobile GR, we designed a bike route between all three sites that you can ride anytime. Don’t forget to join us for our Pedal Project 1 event and ride the route with our partner Jason Hall from Ridetroit.

Drive your car
Planning ahead will help you navigate parking during Project 1 events. A variety of free and paid parking options are within walking distance of each site location, but parking is limited depending on the time of day. When you can, please consider carpooling with others.

Downtown
We recommend starting at Rosa Parks Circle when exploring the Project 1 art installations downtown.

MLK Park
There is limited parking in the lot at MLK Park, however, street parking is available. Be respectful of area neighbors – please don’t park on lawns or block driveways.
