It’s that time of year again! We’re currently searching for our latest Project 1 team member — a Communications Assistant who will play an invaluable role on our seasonal team. This role interfaces with media representatives, responds to requests for information and assets, prepares spokespeople for interviews, manages social media strategy and implementation, as well as creates and deploys content through blog and email marketing platforms, and more.
Amanda Browder / Magic Chromacity Community Sewing Day
Project 1 artist, Amanda Browder, will transform spaces across Grand Rapids into multi-colored textile sculptures this fall. And she needs your help.
She’s calling on our community — you and me — to help her collect fabric and sew these immense striped tapestries that she’ll wrap around multiple buildings and structures throughout our city.
How You Can Help
Sew with Us
Absolutely no sewing experience is required to come sew with Amanda, our team and people from our community. Everyone of all ages and abilities are welcome to join. At each Sewing Day, you’d have the opportunity to:
Organize fabric by color
Place fabric on the tables for pinning
Pin the fabric
Sew the pinned sections together
Maintain the sewing machines and be there if someone needs help
Organize the fabric as it’s sewn
Sewing Day details for next month are now available:

Artist Amanda Browder will transform spaces across Grand Rapids into multi colored textile sculptures for Project 1: Crossed Lines this fall. She relies on support from community members where her projects take place, gathering materials and stories.
How You Can Help Now
This is where you come in. In just a few weeks, Amanda will be in town for her first Grand Rapids Sewing Days. Before she arrives, we’re collecting fabric and thread to support the creation of her work.
What We’re Looking For
Do you have fabric remnants leftover from past projects, or even fabric bolts hanging around? We’d love to put them to use. We’re looking for colorful, non-stretchy fabrics in opaque materials like cotton, rayon and velvet, as well as threads of all kinds.
Donate Your Fabric + Thread
To donate your fabric and thread, send them to 41 Sheldon Blvd SE Grand Rapids, MI 49503, or stop by Monday-Friday, 9a-4p.
The artist and our team thank you. Stay tuned — in the coming weeks, opportunities will open for you to join Amanda in sewing together with us and our community. No experience needed.
Exciting news! We’re adding to our design team for the Project 1 season. Our Design Assistant will serve as a principal member of the ArtPrize design team, assisting the Design Lead and working closely with the amazing team at Conduit Studio.
